The conferences have come and gone, summer is in full swing and here we are. I remember thinking when I walked in to our last meeting just how amazing that 17 people showed up in the middle of summer. It really speaks volumes that people want to come no matter when or how and just how important and special our meetings are. Our new website, currently being created by Rob with content from Nina, Mitch, and myself, will include conference photos (please send your photos to, but I’m sure you’ll hear a bit more about it as those who attended get off their conference buzz. As I sit here thinking about our last meeting and all the topics that came up, its important to mention the main theme that comes up meeting after meeting and time and again. The love and support and sharing that goes on is just so tangible and comes through at each and every meeting that you can feel it. It gives people the confidence to share. People brought up topics such as self acceptance, the idea that without confirming you are a PWS, you cannot conquer it. Remember that conquering stuttering could mean ...

My last newsletter started with a question to anyone who has ever CONSIDERED an NSA Queens Chapter meeting; Why not now? Why not come out and hear all about what you could expect might happen at the NSA Conference in Fort Worth, Texas. Well, if last month didn't work for you, I have one better. This month's meeting will include some talk about what took place. I can speak from first hand experience that you will hear people at our meeting talking about LIFE CHANGING experiences and friendships. I can only think of one meeting that could possibly be more inspiring, confidence building, and emotionally uplifting than last month's meeting.......This month's POST CONFERENCE RE-CAP! This year’s conference was the largest ever (850 people) and it was simply amazing!! David Siedler (screenwriter of "The King's Speech") shared some of his life story. Regarding our chapter, we had 13 people from our group attending and were being considered for "Chapter of the Year". More detail to come for those who are interested. At our last meetings, a lot of discussion was focused on the idea of advertising our stuttering to others, or better yet, the listener. Some different views about advertising were brought ...

The time is NOW! Yes, I'm talking to YOU! Anyone who is reading this and has CONSIDERED coming to an NSA Queens Chapter meeting, but hasn't, there is NO better time! Why? Good question; because we are officially into what a lot of people who stutter (especially members of the NSA family) refer to as "Conference Season". Our next meeting will not only contain it's usual buzz and excitement, it will also serve as a great opportunity for us to share and learn about our experiences and anxieties about attending this year's annual conference. (see below for more information) If you enjoy the warmth, support and understanding that are constants at NSA Queens chapter meetings, then you will love the experience of an annual conference. With the popularity of the King's Speech, it looks like this year will be the biggest ever (more than 600 people). There is no better way to find out what this year's conference has in store then to come to our meeting THIS Monday. As I reviewed my notes for this newsletter, a common thread stuck out between the lines - People really enjoy coming to our meetings. It's not easy to find someone in the ...
